Crissing and Crossing

My Leyburns are progressing quite nicely. They are the perfect break-time knit. The pattern has been set to memory and I'm just zipping along.

This picture was taken before work. I got in another couple of repeats yesterday. I think two more and I'll be ready for the cuff. I'm vacillating between twisted rib and picot edge. What do you think?

Now my biggest joy in these socks is the heel. Just look at it.

Look hard. I ripped it out three times before I got here! As I reported last week, I first tried the double wrap method, which left me holes you could drive a car through. Thinking this was due to the thickness of the yarn, I tried the single wrap method. Still now good. So I did do a heel flap as I said I would. I was getting over the pool, I had even closed the gusset and was working on the leg. And then I stumbled upon this on the Ravelry STR Leyburn thread (posted of course by Sam of Daily Chum fame):

The easiest, fastest, cleanest short-row heel EVER. So of course I ripped all of that new heel. But look. Look!

I'm ever so pleased I did!

And check out the KAL (rav link) pages to see this knit up in a myriad of STR colors!

It looks great - and just to let you know, I'm reading :-).

Thanks for the pointer to the heel technique.

I love the socks and how they are turning out. And I'm also reading (although I frequently just lurk)

I just came by to see how you were progressing - love the way the heel turned out. Much nicer than anything I've ever done sockily speaking.

I love those socks! The color is great and if my stupid adobe reader would let me download anything I would cast that pattern on like gangbusters.
Great heel. It's always gratifying when something turns out right isn't it?

Those are one great-looking pair of socks with one of the nicest looking heels I've ever seen. Congratulations on your persistence. I probably would have left the holes in the first time and said it was a feature :-)

Count me in as loving the socks and the great heel. I gotta learn how to do that.

I think the socks are fabulous. And I check your blog regularly, even if I don't comment - too bad Trudy didn't!
